Rec fastpitch keeps baseball’s familiar spring rhythm: register in winter, practice in March, play April through June. The fork in the calendar is July, when rec families rest and travel fastpitch enters its nationals season. The second useful wrinkle is fall ball, which is the cheapest, lowest-pressure place in the sport for a kid to try the pitching circle for the first time.
