NFHS approved eight flag football rule changes for the 2026-27 season. A trailing team can now keep the ball after scoring and start fourth down at its own 20 instead of kicking off. States get a fourth field-size option, teams start with seven players and can drop to five if injuries leave them short, and instant replay is limited to state postseason games.
