Florida's Second Chance Act now requires an ECG before any incoming ninth grader, or first-time FHSAA athlete in grades 10-12, can play. Returning athletes are exempt but encouraged. Screenings run minutes-long, often free, through the nonprofit Who We Play For. The law is named for Chance Gainer, a Florida student-athlete the Act memorializes.
